Chicago
the musical Chicago is based on a woman's prison in the 1920's, it about how they all murdered people and how they are dealing with it. One of the leading roles is Roxie a young woman in her prime who wants to sing jazz but she ends up messing it all up when she cheats on her husband with a man who she ends up killing. since the time is 1920's flappers are very in style and so was jazz, flappers are woman who would have bobbed hair and wear short dresses and skirts. Chicago is based on a play that was written by someone called Maurine Dallas Watkins who was assigned a case in 1924 for women who were on trail. back then they found the fact that women were killing there lovers or spouses
what were your first impressions of the 2 choices of piece?
my first impressions of the two choices was that they both very different but at the same time they both intrigued me. The scene from little shop of horrors is about a man who brought a plant and hes explaining to the shop keeper what happened when he brought it though song and then three girls come and sing adlibs in the background. the reason i liked it was because it gave a cool funny vibe. the next was cell block tango this is set in a woman's prison and its all about hoe they killed their husbands the reason i liked this was because it was good but it also had a dark side to it.
what did you know about the different pieces and what have you researched/found out so far?
i found out that Chicago was originally a play written by a man who was given a case about woman's prison, i also found that people in 1920's would find the fact that woman were killing people fascinating and that in 1920 there were some woman called flappers who would have bobbed hair short skirts and listen to jazz and that's like most of the people in Chicago. i also found out that little shop or horrors was a b movie that was turned into a musical that was turned into a film. i found researching little shop of horrors fun because i kept meaning to watch it when i was younger but i never got round to doing it.
which scene/piece are you interested in working on with and why? what performance skills do you think it involves and how will this help your development?
i am really exited to be working on cell block tango because i wanted to challenge myself as out teacher said that doing the do-doo song is more acting and singing and cell block tango is more singing and dancing. i feel like i chose the one that i can do best because loads of ideas sprung to mind when i was thinking about doing the scene.

what did you plan/develop/devise/work on in the session ?
today we went though the cell block tango dance but then we found out that we didnt really know the timing of the song we had been focusing on the dance and not on the actual song itself. so we spent the lesson listening to the song and learning the different timings. then at the end of the lesson we did it without backing vocals to see if we could manage and we still have a long way to go.

acting
to begin our lesson we started by doing some vocal exercises to help with projection and to help us with our monologues. we then went into talking about our monologues and why we chose them i said the i liked the way it sounds my monologue is all about being tricked and being made fun out of so i thought it would be fun person to play. we then all went to different parts of the class room and projected on monologues as loud as we could which i think helped with getting of vocal levels higher and it helped with nervs because no one could see you.
ballet
in our ballet lesson we started by watching a video called Cinderella and it looked really cool and when i found out that we were going to learning parts from it i was very nervous because my skills are very bad when it comes to ballet as its hard for someone of my weight to do most of things we do in ballet. we then went to the bar are did our usual steps.
project workshop
we started by watching clips of old B movies then we watched the B movie version o little shop of horrors and then we watched the musical film as our teacher wanted us to pick between da doo or cell block tango. i found da-doo more of a story then a song and although i liked the song it was just not what i wanted to do.

Monday 15th January
project workshop
we worked on doing our cell block tango and any initial ideas we had we spoke about what backing track we were going to use and how that would effect timing. we also sat down and spoke about how we were going to lay out the stage
these are sheets we did in class about the different lighting we wanted for Cell Block Tango we had so many different ideas on what we wanted to do and how we would do it.
original costumes
we of course found the costumes way to over sexualised for us so for our costume we decided to wear and orange jumpsuit and something fishnet
